ABOUT

The Lost Boys: Behind the Scenes** is an experimental AI filmmaking project inspired by my lifelong appreciation for the 1987 cult classic *The Lost Boys*. Having watched the film more than 50 times, I've developed a deep familiarity with its characters, atmosphere, visual style, and enduring cultural appeal. This project grew from a simple creative question: What if I could reimagine the experience of being behind the camera during the making of a film I've admired for decades? Through a combination of generative AI, cinematic storytelling, voice synthesis, sound design, and traditional post-production techniques, I explored how emerging creative technologies could work together to recreate the atmosphere of an iconic 1980s film production. The goal was not to remake the original movie, but to experiment with the possibilities of AI-assisted filmmaking, bringing familiar characters and imagined behind-the-scenes moments into a new visual experience. Created under **Paper and Light Films**, this project represents both a personal tribute to a beloved film and an exploration of the evolving relationship between human creativity, artificial intelligence, & cinematic storytelling.

PROCESS

This project began as a personal creative experiment inspired by my longtime appreciation for the 1987 cult classic *The Lost Boys*. Having watched the film more than 50 times, I wanted to explore how emerging generative AI technology could recreate the atmosphere of a familiar cinematic world while offering a completely different perspective: a fictional behind-the-scenes look at its production. My workflow involved experimenting with **Kling 4.0 and Seedance 2.5**, moving between the two video generation models to evaluate their strengths in character consistency, realistic movement, camera choreography, environmental detail, and dialogue delivery. Each sequence required carefully developed prompts, visual references, and multiple creative adjustments to achieve the desired results. A major focus was creating believable filmmaking environments. Rather than simply reproducing recognizable scenes, I experimented with revealing the fictional production process itself, including cinema cameras, lighting equipment, camera operators, and crew members working around the performers. I explored cinematic techniques such as orbital camera movements, tracking shots, slow dolly-ins, and transitions between dramatic action and simulated behind-the-scenes footage. Audio was another important part of the experiment. I tested AI-generated dialogue, vocal performances, environmental sounds, and sound effects to understand how effectively these elements could support visual storytelling. Particular attention was given to natural speech delivery, synchronization, sound balance, and maintaining the atmosphere of each scene. For post-production, I used **Topaz Astra** to enhance visual quality and detail, **Adobe Premiere Pro** for editing and assembling sequences, and **Adobe Media Encoder** for final video compression and delivery. ChatGPT served as a creative development and prompt-engineering assistant throughout the process, he
